Equine Massage

Equine Massage Therapy is beneficial both physically and psychological. Massage is good not only for the performance horse but also for the family pet and owner. Some of the benefits of massage are listed below.

Benefits of Equine Massage Therapy

Increases
  • Circulation
  • Flexibility / Range of Motion
  • Metabolism
  • Positive Response to Human Touch
Decreases
  • Muscle Stress & Tension
  • Chance of Injury
  • Recovery Time from Injury
  • Shyness to Touch
  • Soreness from over training or exercise

Massages can be applied anytime. The duration and technique used will depend on activities planned for the horse. An example would be if the horse is walking into the competition arena in the next twelve hours then a full body deep tissue massage would be inappropriate. Some horses will be massage junkies and enjoy being worked on the first time being touched. Others, however, will need to be warmed up to the idea and be given time to understand and enjoy what is being done to them.
